German bayonet for the Kar98k rifle, found at German positions in the Pskov region dating to the German retreat in 1944. The bayonet was lying in its scabbard on a dry, sandy hill and was relatively well preserved. Unfortunately, the maker’s mark on the blade was heavily damaged by corrosion and is almost illegible.
All we can say with confidence is that the bayonet was produced no earlier than the late 1930s. This is indicated by its bakelite grip scales, which gradually began replacing the earlier wooden ones during this period.
