Cleaning a unique find in Pompeii—a Roman gladius from the second half of the first century AD in a decorated scabbard.

"The sword's total length, including the hilt, is 69.2 cm. The blade itself is invisible, as it is in its scabbard and measures 51 cm long and 52 cm wide, approximately 4.2 cm wide. The forepart was decorated with a bronze plaque crafted in opus intersile; the condition of the find makes it impossible to determine what it depicts."
