A gold bracelet found on a woman who died during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Pompeii in 79 AD.
It is shaped like a two-headed snake with glass eyes, holding a medallion of the goddess Selene (goddess of the Moon). The bracelet weighs 610 grams. The bracelet gave the name to a famous house in Pompeii – "The House of the Golden Bracelet."
It was found in the hallway of the house where two adults, a man and a woman, with two children (3 and 5-6 years old), sought refuge from the fury of Vesuvius. Casts of their bodies have been preserved (photo 4). The woman and her small child are the bracelet's owner. A decayed box containing 40 gold aurei and 175 silver denarii was also found there.
