A modest yet beautifully carved stone elephant from Nishapur, northeastern Iran, 10th century CE.
A Persian artisan likely originally created it as one of the pieces for a chess set. However, it could also have been a children's toy or a piece of furniture.
Dimensions: length - 8.9 cm, height - 6.6 cm. The exact location and circumstances of the find are unknown; the artifact was donated to the museum from a private collection.
