The most massive Celtic neck torc — the Trichtingen Torc, weighing nearly 7 kg! Southern Germany, dated to the 2nd–1st centuries BC.This torc was discovered near the town of Trichtingen in the Freiburg district, Baden-Württemberg. Its dimensions: outer diameter 29.5 cm, weight approx. 6.7 kg. Although it appears to be made entirely of silver, it is actually iron covered with a layer of silver. It is highly unlikely that it was ever worn around the neck — it is far too heavy and impractical to wear, and it shows no signs of wear or abrasion. Most probably, this torc adorned a wooden statue of a deity. When Germanic tribes arrived in the region, it was hidden — buried in the ground.
