“The golden dagger of Aannepadda, king of the First Dynasty of Ur and Kish, found in his tomb” — this caption is often associated with the artifact. However, the object shown here is not the original dagger but a high-quality replica.
The dagger itself was indeed discovered in the Royal Cemetery of Ur and dates to around 2350 BCE, but its attribution to Aannepadda remains speculative. Tomb PG580 had already been looted in antiquity, leaving no direct evidence that it belonged to this ruler. The original is housed in the National Museum of Iraq in Baghdad, while the replica is on display in the British Museum.
